The Marriage of Figaro Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791)

Dates August 14, 15 | 21h00
Venue Cloisters of the Cartuxa Convent, Caxias

Another Great Classic at Cartuxa, with the duo Mozart/Lorenzo da Ponte evoking a rich array of infidelities, in a timeless social critique.

Also in the Cloisters of the Cartuxa Convent, in Caxias, another great classic: Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (1786), based on the masterful libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte, marking the beginning of the close collaboration between the two geniuses. Based on the homonymous work by Beaumarchais, this treatise on human relationships and power games and desires addresses the numerous intricate enigmas of the heart, weaving a heavy critique of the harassment and sexual abuse by the wealthy classes, which granted the feudal lord the prerogative to sleep with the servant before handing her over to her future husband.

It explores the entire range of amorous seduction: from loves and heartbreaks, misunderstandings, betrayals, exchanges, and spicy traps, all for a desired happy ending. A masterpiece from beginning to end, with a cast of great national talent, who created a sensation in past Operafest productions, are together again in this new Mozartian challenge, under the direction of maestro Pedro Carneiro, staged by Mónica Garnel, with the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra.
