André Soares
Portuguese baritone André Soares is a chorus member of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos. He began his vocal studies in 2009 at the Baixo Alentejo Regional Conservatory before continuing at the Lagos Music Academy under the guidance of Joana Godinho. During this period, he combined classical vocal training with musical theatre, performing in West Side Story, Peter Pan, Cabaret, and the title role in Sweeney Todd.
After moving to the United Kingdom in 2015, he performed regularly with The London Chorus and the Highgate Choral Society under Ronald Corp, appearing on several occasions as a soloist. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Voice at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2022, studying with Gary Coward, and in 2024 graduated with distinction from the Advanced Opera Performance programme at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he studied with Adrian Thompson.
His recent operatic engagements include the chorus in Judith Weir's Miss Fortune (Guildhall School of Music and Drama); Guglielmo in Mozart's Così fan tutte with Cardiff Opera and later North Wales Opera Studio (NWOS); the chorus in The Shoemaker with the Welsh National Opera; Schaunard in La bohème (Cardiff Opera); the title role in Gianni Schicchi (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama); the chorus in I Pagliacci, La traviata and Lucia di Lammermoor with Opera Holland Park; the chorus in Rigoletto and Peter Grimes with the Welsh National Opera; Rodrigo in Don Carlo with RE. Opera; and the chorus in Wagner's Tannhäuser at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos.
In 2026, André Soares was selected as a Young Artist at Opera Holland Park, where he performed the role of Guglielmo in Mozart's Così fan tutte.
