Afonso Ruivo Cardoso

He graduated in 2024 with a degree in Languages, Literatures and Cultures from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon. As part of the Erasmus+ Programme, he studied at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris III.

Since 2023, he has worked as an actor with Grupo TEMA – Teatro Mafra. In 2025, he served as assistant director for Claudio Hochman's production of Clitemnestra at the Roman Theatre of Lisbon, as well as for the operas Julie and Vanessa, directed by Daniela Kerck.

In 2022, with the support of the José Saramago Foundation, he directed Ao Inferno, Senhores. In 2023, he created and directed the musical play Por Detrás das Árvores, exploring literature and war. In 2024, he wrote, directed and premiered his first original play, Sobre os Rios, as part of the celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of the poet Luís Vaz de Camões.

In 2025, he conceived, directed and performed in the staged concert Os Lusíadas with the Nova Era Vocal Ensemble at the Jerónimos Monastery. In the same year, he directed Gluck's opera Orfeo ed Euridice under the musical direction of conductor João Barros. In 2026, he presented his staging of Gil Vicente's Auto da Feira at Teatro A Barraca.
