Daniela Cardante
Daniela Cardante is a Portuguese set designer who studied Stage Production at the António Arroio School of Arts between 2012 and 2015 before graduating in Stage Design from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School between 2015 and 2018.
Throughout her career, she has designed the sets for productions including A Praia, awarded the Portuguese Golden Globe for Best Theatre Production, Hora de Visita, MESA, Homo Sacer, Killer Joe, and Nó do Hábito, developing scenic concepts in which visual design and dramaturgy are intrinsically connected.
She has created sets and props for directors including Maria João Luís, Alice Azevedo, João Reis, Tiago Lima, Miguel Ponte, Helena Caldeira and António Pires, among others.
Her work is characterised by a contemporary approach to stage design, exploring the relationship between space, material, light and the body to create visual worlds that enhance both the dramaturgy and the audience's experience.
In many of these productions, she personally builds and constructs her own designs.
In 2020 and 2021, she collaborated with Operafest, designing the sets for Puccini's Tosca, the sets and costumes for the double bill Até que a Morte nos Separe by Ana Seara and Mahagonny Songspiel by Kurt Weill, as well as the sets for Mozart's Don Giovanni and Verdi's La Traviata.
